Site tour: Heat pump & thermal battery installation at Montague fruit processing facility

Wednesday 29 March 2023

Montague, an Australian owned and operated family fruit business is kindly hosting the Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity (A2EP) and Glaciem Cooling Technologies for a tour of the Glaciem heat pump and thermal battery technologies installed at Montague's fruit processing facility in Narre Warren North, Victoria.

Requiring hot water for the cleaning and waxing of fruit, Montague opted for a heat pump system over gas to avoid gas connection costs and to ensure the organisation stays on its decarbonisation pathway. The CO2 R744 heat pump system developed by Glaciem Cooling Technologies utilises waste heat from the site's refrigeration system and also incorporates a Glaciem thermal battery system using phase change materials (PCM) technology. This thermal storage enables energy optimisation by load-shifting and utilising behind-the-meter solar PV generation. Heat pumps and thermal batteries will be critical for decarbonising Australia's process heat and industrial sector. There is huge potential to do this right now with technologies already commercially available.

The site tour will be hosted by Montague Managing Director, Scott Montague. It will give attendees the opportunity to see heat pump and thermal battery technologies installed and operating and to receive a high-level technical briefing on the system design, installation and operation with presentations from A2EP, Glaciem and Montague. Learn more about the Montague system here: https://www.futureheat.info/po... Registrations for this event have now closed.
